MARTIN UPFIELD SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON IN WORCESTER FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRL
In January 2012, a man from Ronskwood was sentenced to a decade in prison for sexually abusing a young girl over a period exceeding six years.Martin Upfield, aged 41, of Liverpool Road, Worcester, appeared before Worcester Crown Court after being convicted on 13 January of 15 counts of sexual activity with a child. The conviction followed a trial at the same court.
The victim, who was abused from the age of eight until she was 14, came forward and contacted police as an adult in 2010 to report the historic abuse she had endured.
Acting Detective Inspector Martin May, head of the south Worcestershire Public Protection Unit, stated: “Upfield subjected a young girl to sustained sexual abuse for many years, with the abuse occurring on a weekly basis.
“I would like to thank her for the bravery she showed in contacting us and for her perseverance in supporting the efforts of West Mercia Police and the Crown Prosecution Service to charge and prosecute Upfield.
“I hope that the conviction and long prison sentence of individuals like Upfield will encourage other victims of sexual abuse to have the confidence to take action to end their suffering and report it.
“Even if the abuse happened years ago, we will thoroughly investigate and pursue a prosecution whenever possible.”
