DORCHESTER MAN MARTIN PENNELLS CAUGHT FILMING TEENAGE GIRL IN DEVON BATHROOM
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Martin Pennells, a man from Dorchester, was found guilty of secretly filming a teenage girl in a bathroom near South Molton, Devon. The incident took place in early March of this year, when the young girl was using the facilities in a house located in a quiet village. Unbeknownst to her, Pennells had placed his mobile phone in the bathroom with the apparent intent of capturing her on camera for his own sexual gratification.According to reports, the girl initially noticed the phone in the toilet area during her visit but did not immediately realize the gravity of the situation. She chose not to inform anyone at first, perhaps unaware of the potential danger. However, when she encountered the same device in the bathroom again, she became suspicious and confided in a school friend via Facebook message. Her friend advised her to report the matter to a teacher, which she eventually did. The teacher then contacted the police to investigate the incident.
During the trial at Exeter Crown Court, Pennells, who is 43 years old and works as a contractor on farms across North and Mid Devon, admitted to making four or five recordings. Despite his claims that he had no sexual interest in the girl and that his actions were not intended to be sexual, the jury was not convinced. They found him guilty of four counts of voyeurism or attempted voyeurism. The court heard that Pennells had planned and carried out these recordings over a period of several months, indicating a pattern of behavior aimed at satisfying his own sexual urges.
Judge Mr. Philip Mott, QC, sentenced Pennells to a 12-month prison term, which was suspended for two years. Additionally, he imposed a four-month curfew requiring him to stay indoors during nighttime hours. As part of his sentence, Pennells was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. The judge emphasized that Pennells' actions were deliberate and premeditated, highlighting the serious nature of his misconduct and the breach of trust involved in the case.
