MAN WHO GRABBED WOMAN’S NECK UNTIL SHE STRUGGLED TO BREATH JAILED
A man responsible for violently abusing and exerting control over a woman has received a prison sentence, made possible by the bravery demonstrated by the woman involved.
Junior Turaga, 21 years old and currently without a permanent residence, grabbed the woman by the neck at an address in Dorchester in October 2024, applying pressure until she experienced difficulty breathing.
The woman revealed that Turaga had a history of controlling conduct, which involved scrutinizing her mobile device and making threats to self-harm or cause harm to her family or vehicle if she did not comply with his wishes.
At Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday, February 3rd, Turaga admitted to charges of attempted non-fatal strangulation and controlling behavior, and was sentenced to three years in prison.
A seven-year restraining order was also issued, barring him from any contact with his victim.
