MARTIN OLLERENSHAW FROM BLACKPOOL SENTENCED FOR REPEATED OFFENSES INVOLVING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In July 2022, Martin Ollerenshaw, a 34-year-old resident of Blackpool, was sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing offenses involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children and extreme pornography. The case revealed a troubling pattern of behavior that persisted despite previous legal interventions and restrictions.
Ollerenshaw’s criminal activities came to light after he was found to have continued viewing and downloading illicit material while serving a suspended sentence.
His initial arrest and subsequent surrender to police in 2018 marked the beginning of a long and troubling investigation.
Despite admitting to his actions at that time, Ollerenshaw’s offending did not cease, and he repeatedly engaged in similar conduct.
Prosecutor Isabella Denn-White explained that in 2019, Ollerenshaw was handed a suspended sentence after he was caught possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography involving animals.
This sentence was accompanied by a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), which was designed to restrict his online activities.
The order explicitly prohibited him from deleting his search history or using software that could conceal his browsing habits.
However, law enforcement officers conducting routine checks at his residence on Linden Place, Blackpool, in June 2021, discovered suspicious file names on his devices.
This prompted them to seize two laptops and a mobile phone.
Further investigation revealed the presence of software such as VPNs, which directly violated the terms of his SHPO.
Authorities also uncovered seven indecent images of children and 18 extreme pornographic images on his devices.
In May of the following year, police returned to Ollerenshaw’s home to follow up on their findings.
During this visit, he produced another mobile phone from beneath his mattress and warned officers not to search it, claiming it contained illegal material.
Despite his warning, the officers found an additional 19 images, all depicting the same girl, estimated to be between 13 and 18 years old.
Ollerenshaw, who lives alone and has not been employed since 2018, largely isolates himself due to fear of social repercussions and his own shame.
His limited contact with the outside world underscores the severity of his social withdrawal, which has been exacerbated by his ongoing offending behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Andrew Jeffries QC addressed the court, stating, “You surrendered yourself to the police in 2018, admitted you’d downloaded images off the internet, and no doubt that is the reason you were given a suspended sentence.
It was hoped, expected, mitigated that you’d shown a willingness to stop behaving like this.” The judge further remarked, “The sad reality and conclusion that I’ve drawn is you are a paedophile who is unable to control your impulsive sexual interest in children.” He emphasized that the tools Ollerenshaw used, such as software to hide his browsing history, were intended to conceal his illicit activities and prevent detection.
Ultimately, Judge Jeffries sentenced Ollerenshaw to a total of two years and eight months in prison.
Additionally, he activated 10 months of the previously suspended sentence, bringing the total custodial period to three and a half years.
Ollerenshaw is expected to serve at least half of this sentence before being eligible for release on licence, reflecting the gravity of his repeated offenses and the ongoing threat he poses.
