GOSPORT MAN MARTIN ALLAWAY PLANNED TRIP TO RAPE CHILDREN IN SHEFFIELD AND HAD OVER 2000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A man from Gosport who meticulously planned a cross-country journey with the intent to commit heinous acts against children has been sentenced to prison. Martin Allaway, aged 47, residing on Nobes Avenue in Gosport, was found to possess an alarming collection of child abuse images, exceeding 2,000 in number. Among these, 166 images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse.Allaway appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on 27 September 2023, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of attempting to arrange or facilitate a child sex offence. The court was informed of his disturbing intentions and the extent of his online activities.
Further details emerged during a hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday, 19 January, revealing that between January and May 2021, Allaway engaged in online conversations with a woman. During these exchanges, he openly discussed his plans to travel to Sheffield with the purpose of raping two children. Evidence showed that he had researched train schedules and ticket prices, meticulously planning the specific date and time for his journey. Despite his detailed preparations, Allaway ultimately decided not to proceed with his plans and ceased communication with the woman.
Unbeknownst to him, the woman he was speaking with was an undercover officer from the Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU). The supposed children he discussed did not exist; they were part of an undercover operation aimed at preventing such crimes.
Following a thorough investigation by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Allaway was formally charged in August of the previous year. During the sentencing hearing, he was sentenced to 32 months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of his offences and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
