MARK WILSON FROM COEDPOETH JAILED FOR OVER 13,000 INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME MATERIALS

In a case that has shocked the community of Coedpoeth, Mark Wilson, a 54-year-old man residing on Heol y Celyn, was sentenced to prison after police uncovered a staggering collection of over 13,000 indecent images of children on his personal laptops. The investigation revealed a disturbing array of illegal content, including not only still images but also movies and extreme material involving bestiality, highlighting the severity of the offenses committed.

Wilson, who was married at the time, initially insisted to law enforcement officers that his computer equipment would contain nothing illegal. During the police search, he maintained that any illicit material must have been accessed without his knowledge or consent, claiming he was unwittingly involved. Despite his assertions, the authorities found substantial evidence to the contrary.

At Mold Crown Court, the prosecution detailed the extent of the material discovered. The police search, conducted on February 25 of the previous year at Wilson’s residence, uncovered a total of 13,053 still images, with 1,100 classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of illegal content. Additionally, 462 movies were found, including 212 categorized as Category A. The investigation also revealed that more than 7,300 images and 318 films remained accessible on his devices, indicating they had not been deleted or hidden.

Alarmingly, the police found five still images and nine movies of an extreme nature involving sexual acts between humans and animals. The search terms used by Wilson suggested a specific interest in indecent images of children, raising serious concerns about his motives and the potential harm caused.

Wilson was taken into custody and questioned in December following the discovery of these materials. During the interview, he refused to answer questions directly, instead providing a prepared statement in which he claimed that any indecent images found must have been accessed unwittingly. His defense attorney, Henry Hills, described Wilson as a man of good character who was not in the best health. Hills explained that Wilson had previously worked as a carer for elderly disabled individuals but had given up his job to care for his wife, who suffers from a degenerative spinal condition.

Throughout the proceedings, Wilson admitted to developing a habit of viewing pornographic content online, which he acknowledged had escalated into an unhealthy obsession with child pornography and extreme material. His defense highlighted that the pre-sentence report was positive, and the probation service believed there was a realistic chance for rehabilitation, emphasizing Wilson’s willingness to cooperate with treatment.

Judge Rhys Rowlands, presiding over the case, expressed his grave concern over the nature of the offenses. While he acknowledged the possibility of Wilson attending a community internet sex offenders’ course, he ultimately decided that the gravity of the crimes warranted a custodial sentence. Wilson was sentenced to eight months in prison, and he was also ordered to register as a sex offender with the police for the next ten years. Additionally, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order was imposed to restrict his future activities and protect the community from potential harm.

Judge Rowlands emphasized the devastating impact of such images on victims and the importance of ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions. He made it clear that the severity of the case could not be mitigated by any chance of rehabilitation alone, given the disturbing content involved and the suffering inflicted on the victims depicted in the images.
