CHRISTIAN JONES FROM COEDPOETH ESCAPES PRISON AFTER SHARING INDECENT IMAGES ON TWITTER
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Christian Matthew Alan Jones, a resident of Coedpoeth, was brought before Wrexham Magistrates Court in April 2016 to face serious charges related to the distribution and possession of indecent images of children. The proceedings revealed that Jones initially claimed his actions were intended to expose paedophiles, but the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of making indecent images and movies of minors, as well as possessing a total of 25 such illicit files. The case was temporarily adjourned until the following Friday to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, which would guide the court in determining the appropriate punishment. During the hearing, the prosecution outlined the detailed police investigation that led to Jones’s arrest. It was disclosed that in February 2015, authorities received information about an email address associated with a Twitter account that was actively sharing indecent images of children.
Law enforcement officials traced the IP address linked to this email, which ultimately led them to Jones’s residential address in Coedpoeth. Acting on this evidence, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Police officers executed a raid at his home while Jones was at his place of employment. During the raid, they seized his computers and other electronic devices for forensic analysis.
When Jones returned home and was confronted by officers, he was informed that his mobile phone would be confiscated. Initially, he claimed to have left the device at work, but when officers indicated they would contact his employer to retrieve it, Jones admitted that he had hidden the phone behind a nearby tree. He then led the officers to the concealed device.
Further examination of Jones’s computers and mobile phone revealed the presence of multiple indecent images and videos. Authorities also discovered two pieces of ‘elimination software’ designed to overwrite and permanently delete files, indicating an attempt to conceal his activities.
In sentencing, Chair of the magistrates’ bench Wendy Jones emphasized the seriousness of the offences. She imposed a three-year community order on Jones, which includes a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement aimed at addressing his behaviour. Additionally, Jones was ordered to complete an Internet Sexual Offenders Programme over the next three years. To protect the public, a sexual harm prevention order was issued against him for five years. The court also mandated that Jones pay costs amounting to £85 and a victim surcharge of £60, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
