MARK SORBY AND SHOCKING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN HARTLEPOOL
Mark Sorby, aged 45, was recently found guilty of committing a series of 16 sexual offences against four young female victims. The criminal case was heard at Teesside Crown Court last month, where the court proceedings revealed the disturbing extent of Sorby's abusive behavior.
According to court documents and witness testimonies, Sorby engaged in sexual touching of his victims over a period spanning approximately nine years.
The abuse was characterized by inappropriate physical contact, some of which was carried out with force, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Sorby managed to evade justice for many years by convincing his victims not to disclose the abuse.
When one victim finally came forward and reported what had happened, she was initially dismissed and not believed, which is a common issue in cases of childhood sexual abuse.
The conviction was secured after all of Sorby's victims bravely gave evidence during the trial, contributing to a jury that clearly saw through his attempts to deny or downplay the allegations.
Their testimonies confirmed that Sorby’s actions had inflicted lasting psychological trauma on all four women involved.
During the sentencing hearing, one of the survivors attended via videolink from prison to read her impact statement.
She shared her ongoing emotional struggles, stating: "I have nightmares about what Mark did to me and have previously tried to kill myself.
This traumatic ordeal has affected my full life.
No one deserves to be sexually assaulted and no one deserves not to be believed." Another survivor also provided a powerful account, saying: "You made me feel completely worthless.
I cry myself to sleep at night.
You robbed me of the best years of my life." These heartbreaking statements highlight the profound and enduring harm caused by Sorby's actions.
Prosecutor Shaun Dodds detailed one particularly disturbing incident in which Sorby forcibly dragged and pinned a young girl down during an assault.
Following the attack, he allegedly told her, "Nobody will believe you if you tell." Such statements underscore the manipulative nature of Sorby's abuse and his attempts to silence his victims.
Judge Howard Crowson delivered his verdict and sentencing, describing Sorby as a "predatory paedophile" and emphasizing that he bears full responsibility for his crimes.
Judge Crowson remarked: "You are quite obviously a predatory paedophile.
You are entirely to blame.
The offences were carefully carried out so you would not bring suspicion on yourself.
You have caused a great deal of harm." In addition to his prison term, Sorby, who resides on Ettrick Walk in Hartlepool, was sentenced to an extended supervision order of two and a half years to be served after his release.
In mitigation, Stephen Constantine, representing Sorby, argued that he was generally a man of prior good character.
He also noted that, while some elements of his offending involved physical force, there were no threats of violence involved in the assaults.
Furthermore, Sorby was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prohibits him from having any contact with girls under the age of 16.
This order aims to reduce the risk of further harm and protect potential future victims.
The court’s decision reflects the gravity of Sorby’s crimes and the necessity of stringent measures to prevent his reoffending.
