MARK POTTS FROM MALBY ARRESTED IN ROTHERHAM OVER CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS AND IMAGES
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Rotherham, a man named Mark Potts, who resides in Maltby, was apprehended by law enforcement officers in connection with a disturbing collection of child abuse material. The arrest took place in August 2021, after police executed a search warrant at his residence and uncovered a cache of illicit digital content. On June 27, 2019, authorities raided Potts’s home in Maltby while he was at work, seizing multiple electronic devices, including two external hard drives and a laptop computer. The investigation revealed a horrifying collection of digital files, including 17 videos depicting child abuse. Among these videos, 11 involved children as young as three years old, highlighting the severity and depravity of the material. In addition to the videos, the police found over a thousand still images—specifically, 1,036 photographs—depicting various forms of child exploitation.
Further examination of the electronic devices uncovered an extremely disturbing image involving a dog, classified as extreme pornography. This revelation added to the gravity of the case, illustrating the extent of Potts’s engagement with illegal and morally reprehensible content.
During police interviews, Mark Potts admitted to searching the internet for images of young boys, confirming his interest in such illicit material. However, when questioned about specific search terms related to methods of raping children, he denied any involvement, responding with a firm “no way.” Despite his denials, the evidence against him was substantial.
Potts faced multiple charges, including four counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image. His actions and the evidence collected painted a clear picture of his disturbing online activity.
In court, Judge Peter Kelson sentenced Mark Potts to eight months in prison. However, recognizing the circumstances and perhaps considering mitigating factors, the judge suspended the sentence for two years, meaning Potts would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period. The case has drawn significant attention due to the heinous nature of the crimes and the breach of trust involved.
