ANDREW WILEMAN FROM GANESFIELD AND MALTBY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ROTHERHAM
In a significant case that has shocked the local communities, Andrew Wileman, a man with ties to both Maltby and Ganesfield, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of serious child sexual offences committed in Rotherham during the late 1990s and early 2000s.Wileman, aged 54, was convicted of multiple counts related to the abuse of two young victims, who are entitled to lifelong anonymity to protect their identities.
The court heard that Wileman engaged in indecent assaults on these children on numerous occasions, exploiting their trust and innocence during a period when he was residing in Rotherham.
According to court proceedings, Wileman would often assault his victims in private, then attempt to manipulate them by offering sweets and warning them against revealing what was happening.
These tactics were part of his pattern of grooming and abuse, which spanned several years and caused lasting trauma to the victims.
Wileman, who was formerly based in Maltby and more recently lived on Chelynch Road in Ganesfield, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday, June 26.
During the hearing, he was handed a sentence of 14 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
He had previously admitted to four counts of indecent assault on a child, two counts of gross indecency with a child, and one count of indecency with a child.
These admissions came on the third day of his trial in March, which marked a significant step in the judicial process.
Additionally, the court ordered that two other charges related to the victims, as well as one charge involving a third victim, be left on file, meaning they could be considered in future proceedings if necessary.
Furthermore, Wileman was mandated to register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from prison.
The case underscores the importance of justice for victims of child abuse and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to account, regardless of the passage of time or their previous residences.
