BIRMINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER ATTEMPTED RAPE DAYS AFTER PRISON RELEASE
A man identified as Mark Millington, aged 34, was sentenced to life imprisonment for a sex attack committed shortly after his release from prison.
The incident occurred just three days after his release, during which he attempted to rape a woman on the Birmingham University campus.
The court heard that Millington had served a four-year sentence for indecent assault at Wolverhampton University.
During the attack, Millington tried to overpower the victim, putting his hands around her neck, pinning her to the ground, banging her head, and attempting to rape her despite her resistance.
The victim was heard screaming, which led to other individuals coming to her rescue and detaining Millington.
The judge described Millington as a 'severe danger to women' and sentenced him to life, emphasizing the need to protect women from him.
It was also revealed that Millington has a long history of convictions dating back to when he was 13, mainly for burglary, but also including four indecent assaults, the latest in 1998 at Wolverhampton University.
The court acknowledged his previous criminal behavior and his dangerousness.
