October 2015 Sex offender who repeatedly raped schoolgirl faces long prison sentence Mark Maddrell, 37, pleaded guilty to a catalogue of sexual offences against four underage girls over a 16 months. He admitted the 15 charges as he appeared at Teesside Crown Court via video link to Holme House Prison today. The crimes committed against the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were: Six counts of rape four of sexually assaulting a child under 13; Two counts of causing a girl to engage in sexual activity – in one of these offences, he bribed a girl to touch him; One count of causing a child to watch a sexual act; Two counts of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Robert Mochrie, defending, said: “Clearly Mr Maddrell faces a significant custodial sentence.” Maddrell, of Prior Court, Billingham, was remanded in custody until he is sentenced on November 12. Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, told him: “You’ve had the very good sense to plead guilty to this indictment. “I will pass sentence and I will assess the appropriate credit for your pleas. I will give credit for those pleas. “You’ll be sentenced by me on November 12. In the meantime I’m going to have a probation officer see you. “You will realise the only sentence I can pass is one of imprisonment. “The length of that sentence may be determined to some extent by what I read in the probation report.”
