MARK DAWSON'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN LEEDS: TEENAGE GIRL RAPED AFTER PRISON RELEASE

In June 2001, a disturbing case unfolded in Leeds involving a man named Mark Dawson, who was responsible for a heinous assault on a 14-year-old girl.

Dawson, aged 36 at the time, had a criminal history and was released from prison on licence just a year prior to the attack, after serving time for serious offences.

His release did not mark the end of his criminal activities, as he was later convicted of a brutal sexual assault that shocked the local community.

According to court records, Dawson was sentenced to seven years in prison at Leeds Crown Court after he admitted to raping the young girl, an incident that occurred merely ten days before his sentencing.

The attack took place within his own residence in Leeds, where Dawson had invited the girl and her boyfriend.

The court heard that the girl, feeling unwell after drinking cider at Dawson’s home, went to the bathroom feeling dizzy and subsequently collapsed on the floor, banging her head on the sink.

When she regained consciousness, she found Dawson on his bed next to her, having undressed her and engaged in sexual activity against her will.

The court was told that the girl pleaded with Dawson to stop, saying, “Get off me, I am only a kid,” but he responded callously, “I don’t care if you are a kid.” The assault lasted approximately ten minutes, during which Dawson punched and slapped her, and attempted to silence her by covering her mouth with his hand and a cushion, making it difficult for her to breathe.

Despite her screams for help, Dawson continued his assault until he finally released her.

The girl then reported the incident to her boyfriend, who was asleep downstairs, and later to her mother.

The mother noticed bruises on her daughter’s arms, chest, and thighs, confirming the severity of her injuries.

Following his arrest, Dawson attempted to deny any force was used, claiming that the girl had wanted sex and only complained afterward.

However, the evidence and the victim’s account led to his conviction.

Dawson’s previous criminal record included convictions for false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm, for which he was sentenced to four years in jail in 1998.

He was released from prison in June of the previous year, but his criminal conduct persisted.

During the court proceedings, Dawson pleaded guilty to the charges, which resulted in a seven-year prison sentence.

The case was expedited to Leeds Crown Court under new legal measures aimed at reducing delays in serious criminal cases.

The judge, Roderick Adams, acknowledged Dawson’s early plea but emphasized the aggravating factors, notably the victim’s age and Dawson’s history of violence and forceful conduct during the attack.

The judge also ordered that Dawson’s name be added to the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Prosecutor John Storey highlighted the impact of the assault on the young girl, describing her as vulnerable and in need of protection, which was exploited by Dawson.

The case served as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by minors and the importance of strict legal consequences for such crimes.

Dawson’s legal representative, Simon Reevell, pointed out that Dawson’s early guilty plea spared the victim the trauma of giving evidence in court, but the court’s decision reflected the seriousness of his actions and the need for justice in this tragic case.
