MARIEANNE HANSON SHOCKS LEEDS WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND AFFAIR SCANDAL
In March 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Leeds involving Marieanne Hanson, a woman at the center of a child exploitation and infidelity scandal that has shocked the local community. The proceedings took place at Leeds Crown Court, where Hanson and her brother-in-law, Peter Hanson, faced serious charges related to the creation and distribution of indecent images of a minor.
Marieanne Hanson, aged 52 and residing on Kingsley Drive in Adel, Leeds, was found to have engaged in a long-standing affair that led her to commit heinous acts involving a young girl.
Court documents revealed that Hanson took explicit photographs of an underage girl, which she then shared with her brother-in-law, Peter Hanson, who lives on Station Road in Tydd Gote, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
The court heard that Hanson’s actions were driven by her troubled personal circumstances, including an unhappy and abusive marriage that had lasted for two decades with her husband, Phillip Hanson.
During the court proceedings, it was disclosed that Hanson and Peter Hanson engaged in depraved conversations via Facebook Messenger.
These conversations included disturbing discussions about the possibility of Peter having sexual relations with the young girl in the photographs and even making plans for the girl to have a baby for them.
Such exchanges highlighted the extent of their depravity and the serious nature of their offenses.
Helen Chapman, representing Hanson, explained that her client had been married to Phillip Hanson for twenty years.
She described Hanson as being in a state of emotional distress, stating, “[Marieanne] thought [Peter] was the light at the end of the tunnel.” Chapman also noted the personal toll the crimes had taken on Hanson, including the loss of her job in the healthcare sector as a consequence of her actions.
Tragically, she added that Phillip Hanson had since died suddenly in their home, adding a layer of personal tragedy to the case.
Hanson faced multiple charges, including two counts of taking indecent images of a child, one count of making an indecent image of a child, and two counts of distributing such images.
Peter Hanson pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child.
The court heard that both individuals had committed these offenses, with Hanson’s actions being particularly egregious.
Judge Tom Bayliss QC sentenced Marieanne Hanson to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.
The judge described her offending as “beyond comprehension,” emphasizing the severity of her crimes.
Hanson was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years and to complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
Regarding Peter Hanson’s case, there was a brief debate about whether he was sexually attracted to children.
It was decided that his sentencing would be handled separately at a Newton hearing scheduled for April 4.
This hearing will determine, without a jury, whether Peter Hanson’s actions were driven by sexual attraction, allowing the court to establish the appropriate legal response based on the evidence presented.
