2007: PUB DJ JAILED FOR SEX WITH 14-YEAR-OLD
A well-known DJ at a pub in Halesowen received a one-year prison sentence after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old schoolgirl. On November 28, at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge Robert Orme delivered the sentence to 32-year-old Marcus Baker.
The court was told that Baker believed the encounter was consensual, yet he failed to confirm the girl’s age, despite being aware that he was significantly older.
Baker confessed to having sex with the girl and was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade.
Evidence presented indicated that Baker, residing on Laurel Lane, made a careless choice not to question the girl about her age.
The girl was reported to be deeply distressed afterward, leading her to file a formal complaint.
Prior to his arrest, Baker had contacted the police himself.
The defense presented Baker as a maintenance engineer who has contributed positively to his community, describing his actions as a momentary lapse in judgment.
Prosecutor Rhiannon Jones stated that Baker knew the girl and that her upset reaction afterward was what led to her reporting the incident.
While the court acknowledged Baker’s references, it emphasized that he was aware of the impropriety, given the age disparity involved.
