MARC MOORE AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENDING IN CUMBRIA

A man from Workington in Cumbria, identified as 34-year-old Marc Moore, has been convicted and sentenced following disturbing online covert operations aimed at a presumed young girl.

Moore was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexually explicit communications with what he believed to be a 12-year-old girl.

Unbeknownst to him, the recipient of his messages was actually an undercover police officer, exposing the extent of his predatory behavior.

The incident took place over a span of three weeks in April of the previous year.

The investigation was initiated after the undercover officer, who was pretending to be a juvenile online, received a friend request from Moore.

This connection prompted a series of private messages, during which Moore persistently sought to persuade the young girl to send him explicit photographs.

Prosecutor Brendan Burke outlined that the main theme throughout their online exchanges was Moore’s attempt to coerce her into sharing naked images of herself.

Evidence indicated that Moore even attempted to reinforce his requests by sending a picture, purportedly of himself in casual street clothing, which was later established not to be an image of the defendant but of a much younger-looking man.

Moore’s conduct was notably persistent; he continually pressed the girl for photographs and also sought contact information for her friends on Snapchat, indicating an intent to communicate with others associated with her.

His repeated solicitations for images demonstrated a pattern of grooming behavior that caused significant concern for the authorities.

During the hearing, Moore’s defense, represented by Judith McCullough, painted a picture of him as a hard-working family man residing in a single property in Workington.

She emphasized that his actions were out of character and that he had contributed positively to his community.

McCullough stated that Moore had acknowledged his wrongdoing early by pleading guilty and that his actions took place within a relatively short timeframe.

She further noted that there was no evidence in his internet browsing history suggesting he actively sought out harmful material or that he had a propensity for such behavior prior to this case.

Following his arrest, Moore faced immediate consequences.

He lost his employment, although his former employer indicated that he might be permitted to return to work once the legal proceedings concluded.

The strain of the case also impacted his marriage, contributing additional personal hardship.

McCullough expressed remorse on his behalf, declaring that he was deeply ashamed of his conduct and apologized for the distress caused.

Judge Nicholas Barker reviewed the case and the evidence, including the explicit messages sent by Moore.

The judge highlighted that Moore had been fully aware the young girl he was messaging was purported to be 12 years old.

He pointed out that Moore acknowledged her age, claiming to be 32, and was disappointed or shocked upon hearing her claim to be significantly younger.

The judge noted Moore’s continued engagement in the conversations, including requests for explicit images, even after learning her true age.

While the judge recognized Moore’s remorse, he also expressed concern that this remorse appeared to be partly influenced by the fact that Moore had found himself before the court.

Nevertheless, Judge Barker felt confident that Moore's chances for rehabilitation were reasonable.

Consequently, Moore was sentenced to a three-year community order.

This sentence includes participation in a sex offender treatment program, completion of 15 rehabilitation activity days, and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Furthermore, Moore will be placed on the Sex Offender Register for a period of five years and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.

The prosecution also presented a case involving additional allegations, including Moore’s possession of six Category C indecent images of children and four extreme pornography images.

However, he was found not guilty of these charges, and this aspect of the case was formally dismissed.

This case underscores the ongoing concern about online grooming and child exploitation, illustrating the importance of vigilance and active law enforcement efforts in tackling such disturbing offenses in communities like Cumbria.
