WREXHAM MAN MALCOLM WHITEHALL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG GIRL IN THE 1990S
In a case that has spanned decades before reaching justice, Malcolm Whitehall, a resident of Wrexham, was sentenced to prison for a serious sexual assault that occurred in the late 1990s.The incident involved a young girl under the age of 16, and it was only many years later that the crime was brought to light and prosecuted.
Whitehall, aged 44 and residing at Tan-y-Coed in Wrexham, was convicted of indecent assault on the girl during the late 1990s.
The case was heard at Mold Crown Court, where the presiding judge emphasized the importance of upholding justice and protecting the public from offenders.
The court was told that the assault had not been reported to authorities until December 2018, nearly two decades after the incident.
Prosecutor Jade Tufail explained that the delay in reporting was significant, but once the allegations surfaced, law enforcement acted swiftly.
Whitehall was arrested in February 2019 and initially denied the charges.
However, after a trial, he was found guilty of the indecent assault.
During sentencing, The Recorder Mr.
RJ.
Philpotts stated that Whitehall’s actions had caused considerable distress to his victim.
The court recognized the lasting impact such abuse can have on a young person and took this into account when determining the appropriate punishment.
Whitehall was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Following his release, he will be subject to an extended licence period of one year, during which he will be closely monitored.
The judge also ordered that Whitehall must register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to ensure ongoing public safety and awareness.
Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which prohibits Whitehall from working with children or in any capacity that involves contact with minors.
These restrictions are intended to prevent any future harm and to safeguard vulnerable individuals in the community.
This case highlights the importance of reporting abuse regardless of how much time has passed and underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judiciary to bring offenders to justice, even years after the crime was committed.
