SHEERNESS SEX OFFENDER MALCOLM WAGHORN SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE

In a case that has shocked the community of Sheerness, Malcolm Waghorn, a 37-year-old man, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 11 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incident, which took place in Sheerness, has brought to light the disturbing actions of Waghorn, who was previously residing in Graveney, near Faversham.

According to court proceedings, Waghorn was confronted by police at his residence, where he greeted officers with a chilling remark, saying, “You are looking for me.” Following this, he chose to fully confess to the crimes, a decision that was detailed during the hearing at Maidstone Crown Court. Waghorn admitted to committing four separate acts of sexual assault and engaging in three instances of sexual activity with a minor, all involving the same young girl.

The prosecution, led by John O’Higgins, outlined the disturbing progression of the abuse. It was revealed that Waghorn initially molested the girl over her clothing, but the abuse escalated over time. The victim recounted how Waghorn’s actions became more invasive, and on one particular occasion, when he performed a sexual act on her, she managed to escape. Waghorn responded by chasing her and physically assaulting her, slapping her across the face.

Further details emerged when Waghorn asked the girl to record a video of her private parts on his mobile phone, claiming it would help him because he could watch the footage instead of touching her directly. The girl described the request as “disgusting,” but Waghorn persisted in his demands. During his arrest, Waghorn made admissions to the police, describing his state as being “in a blur,” and claimed that the abuse had spiraled out of control. He insisted, however, that he “never intended to have sex with her,” a statement that was met with skepticism by the court.

Defense lawyer Danny Moore acknowledged the severity of the case, describing it as the “worst of its kind.” He pointed out that Waghorn exhibited significant distortions in his thinking processes and emphasized that it was unlikely he would ever be allowed unsupervised contact with any child again. Moore also noted that there was very little mitigation to justify Waghorn’s actions.

Judge Michael Carroll delivered a stern judgment, condemning Waghorn’s behavior. He stated, “You knew full well what you were doing. I reject any kind of justification expressed for this behaviour. These were repeated assaults.” The judge emphasized that the case represented a serious catalogue of offending, warranting strict measures to protect the public. As a result, Waghorn was ordered to be subject to an indefinite sexual offences protection order, ensuring he remains under supervision and restrictions.

Furthermore, Waghorn’s name will be permanently listed on the sex offenders’ register, marking him for life. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Sheerness, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
