SHEERNESS MAN JAILED FOR COVERTLY FILMING STEPDAUGHTER IN SHOWER WITH SPY PEN
Craig West, a 63-year-old man from St George’s Avenue, Eastchurch, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses.
He secretly recorded his stepdaughter, Megan Ervin, in the shower using a spy-pen hidden inside a toothbrush holder at their family home in Sheerness.
During the incident, Megan was encouraged by West to take a shower, and upon doing so, she noticed a flashing light in the toothbrush holder, which she later discovered to conceal a camera lens and a memory card inside the pen.
Megan acted quickly by photographing the device and alerting her family.
West, confronted, initially denied knowledge but later admitted ownership of the device and attempted to destroy it.
Police found additional footage on his laptop, showing another woman being filmed in his caravan.
West admitted to two offences of voyeurism and two of observing a person doing a private act for sexual gratification, claiming the acts were not motivated by sexual intent but by hate and spite.
He also claimed the recordings were accidental, set up to catch his wife’s lover.
The court heard impacts on the victims’ mental health, relationships, and wellbeing.
West was sentenced to six months in prison, ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, and received a restraining order preventing contact with the victims.
The judge noted the severity of his conduct, highlighting the devastation caused to Megan and the second woman, and emphasized that only immediate custody would suffice given the circumstances.
