MAHMUT ICER WREXHAM MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF SCHOOLGIRL IN WREXHAM AND ENGLAND
In a case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Mahmut Icer, a 43-year-old man residing on Bryn Street in Ruabon, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in the serious sexual abuse of a young schoolgirl.The conviction was handed down at Mold Crown Court after a detailed and disturbing series of events that spanned over a year and a half.
According to court records, Icer was found guilty of eight counts related to grooming and sexual exploitation of a girl under the age of 16.
The charges included causing or inciting a minor to engage in sexual activity and engaging in penetrative sexual acts with a girl under 16.
The judge, Rhys Rowlands, summarized the case, revealing that the abuse began around 2018 and continued for approximately 18 months.
During this period, Icer systematically groomed the girl by showering her with gifts and money totaling approximately £2,800, creating a manipulative and coercive environment.
The court heard that Icer coerced the girl into sending him indecent videos and images of herself.
In return, he sent her explicit videos and images of himself performing sexual acts.
The abuse was not confined to Wrexham; Icer repeatedly traveled into England, where he would meet the girl in hotels for sexual encounters.
When the girl expressed her desire for the abuse to stop, Icer threatened to reveal the explicit images she had sent him, further intimidating her and maintaining control over her.
Prosecutor Ffion Tomos presented a victim impact statement during the trial.
The girl described feeling trapped and manipulated, expressing her hatred for herself for allowing the abuse to happen.
She explained that the experience had severely affected her academic performance and her mental health.
The girl also shared that Icer had taken her innocence and provided her with a distorted perception of love and relationships.
Additionally, a statement from the girl’s mother was read aloud in court.
She described her daughter’s drastic change in behavior, noting that she had lost weight, appeared very low in confidence, and her school grades had declined.
The mother emphasized the emotional toll the court proceedings had taken on her daughter, as she was forced to relive the traumatic events.
Judge Rhys Rowlands sentenced Icer to a total of seven and a half years in prison, with the sentences for the two primary offences—those being the first and last times Icer had sexual contact with the victim—being five years and seven and a half years respectively, to run concurrently.
No separate penalties were imposed for the remaining six counts.
Icer is also required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, and he has been subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
Furthermore, he is prohibited from contacting the victim for five years and has been placed on a barred list preventing him from working with children and vulnerable adults.
In a related case from January 2021, Icer was found guilty of grooming and multiple sexual offences against the same schoolgirl.
The charges included six counts of sexual assault by penetration of a girl under 16, one count of inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of engaging a child in sexual communication.
Icer, who owns several businesses in and around Wrexham, including a pub where he is the licensee, used manipulation, threats of violence, and blackmail to silence and control his victim.
The case was adjourned for sentencing to take place on February 11, 2021, and Icer was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
