SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR MORE THAN A DECADE AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF SERIOUS SEXUAL OFFENDING
Lyndon Powell, aged 35 and lacking a permanent address, received a 15-year prison sentence during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Monday, October 14.
The conviction was for sexual assault by penetration, which occurred on a woman in the Leeds region in June 2024.
The incident was reported shortly afterward, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Powell was taken into custody, and after a detailed investigation by specialist safeguarding officers, he was charged in March of the same year.
He remained in custody pending trial, and a jury found him guilty of the offence following a trial held in September.
Detective Inspector Kelly Brown from the Leeds District Safeguarding Team commented: "Lyndon Powell is an opportunistic and dangerous sexual predator, and the sentence reflects this." "The conviction and imprisonment were made possible by the bravery of the victim, who reported the assault and supported the prosecution throughout the process."
