LIAM STAZAKER FROM NEWCASTLE CAUGHT WITH CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Newcastle community, 21-year-old Liam Stazaker was found to possess indecent images of children, sparking a serious investigation into his activities.The incident unfolded in June 2016 when police executed a search warrant at his residence on Cambridge Drive in Newcastle, following information that led authorities to suspect his involvement in the possession of illegal material.
During the raid, officers seized a MacBook from Stazaker's bedroom.
The device was subsequently analyzed, revealing the presence of three movies depicting children being sexually abused.
Of these, two were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of indecency, while the third was categorized as Category B.
The discovery of such material is a grave concern, highlighting the extent of the offender's illicit activities.
Stazaker was promptly arrested and later pleaded guilty to two charges related to the creation of indecent photographs of children.
His acknowledgment of the problem was noted during proceedings, with the defendant admitting that he had sought help from the Lucy Faithful Foundation but was deterred by the high costs involved, which prevented him from pursuing further assistance.
Prosecutor Peter McCartney addressed Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, providing details of the police operation.
He explained that officers acted on credible intelligence and arrived at Stazaker's home early in the morning, at approximately 6:35 am on January 21, 2015.
The seizure of the MacBook was a pivotal moment in the investigation, revealing the extent of Stazaker's illicit activities.
In mitigation, Jason Holt highlighted that the defendant was burdened with significant debts, which he was attempting to resolve through his father's efforts to remortgage their home.
Holt emphasized Stazaker's intention to repay his family, portraying him as someone who recognizes his mistakes and is seeking to make amends.
Judge Paul Glenn delivered the sentence, opting for a community order that would include participation in an accredited program aimed at addressing his behavior.
The judge stated that Stazaker had installed software to browse the internet anonymously, which he used to search for and exchange images of young children.
The court was told that he engaged in some unpleasant online conversations and had viewed such images over a period of years.
Although he was not charged with distribution, his sexual motivation and gratification from viewing the images were acknowledged.
Judge Glenn remarked that Stazaker was 'luckier than most' due to his supportive family background and the good home environment he came from.
He also addressed the issue of Stazaker's gambling addiction, which had contributed to his financial difficulties.
The judge urged him to mature, find stable employment, and lead a more responsible lifestyle.
As part of his sentence, Stazaker will be registered as a sex offender for five years and subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the same duration.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £350.
