In October 2014, a disturbing case unfolded involving Lewis Cole, a 20-year-old man from Birmingham, who was convicted of multiple heinous sexual offenses against a 16-year-old girl.The assault took place over several months, from June 2013 to February 2014, in the vicinity of Solihull, a town near Birmingham.
The victim, a young girl, endured five separate episodes of rape at the hands of Cole, each one leaving lasting scars both physically and psychologically.
One of the most chilling aspects of this case was the victim’s proactive attempt to record the final attack.
She brought her mother’s mobile phone with her, hoping to capture any confession or evidence that could support her case.
During this recorded encounter, Cole was heard making a disturbing statement: “Don’t be scared, I’m being forceful.
I’ll spend 15 years in prison for this.” This confession, captured on the phone, was a crucial piece of evidence that ultimately contributed to his conviction.
Following the attack, Cole’s behavior did not show remorse.
Instead, he denied the allegations when questioned by authorities.
In a further display of callousness, he sent messages to the girl’s father, questioning her credibility by asking, “What kind of sick girl lies about being raped?” His actions and words reflected a campaign of abuse that inflicted severe psychological harm and humiliation on the victim.
Lewis Cole was brought before Birmingham Crown Court, where he faced multiple charges.
Prosecutor Tom Schofield outlined the gravity of the case, emphasizing that the offenses constituted a sustained campaign of rape and psychological torment.
The court heard that Cole’s actions were not isolated but part of a pattern of repeated abuse over several months.
Judge Abbas Mithani addressed Cole directly during sentencing, highlighting the significance of the mobile phone evidence in revealing the true extent of his conduct.
The judge remarked that Cole initially distanced himself from the allegations, only admitting guilt when it became clear that the evidence was overwhelming and that a jury, properly instructed, would likely find him guilty.

In his defense, Niall Skinner acknowledged Cole’s guilt, stating that his client was quick to accept responsibility and did not attempt to shift blame.
The court sentenced Cole to 12 and a half years in prison for the five counts of rape.
Additionally, upon release, Cole will be subject to a three-year extended license period, ensuring close monitoring of his conduct post-incarceration.
