LESLEY THORNTON'S CRIMES IN DONCASTER: SEXUAL OFFENCES AND ABDUCTION SHOCK THE COMMUNITY
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the town of Doncaster, Leslie Thornton, a 21-year-old man from Queensberry Road, Intake, has been sentenced to three years in prison following his guilty plea to multiple serious charges involving a young girl. The offences include ten counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and two counts of child abduction, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Thornton’s criminal actions came to light after a relationship he initiated with a 14-year-old girl in October 2013 was brought under scrutiny.
It was revealed that Thornton was fully aware of her age when he began his sexual relationship with her, a fact that makes his conduct even more reprehensible.
The victim’s mother, concerned about her daughter’s wellbeing and suspicious of the relationship, contacted police authorities in August 2014.
Her fears were confirmed when she discovered Thornton’s age and learned that her daughter was involved in a sexual relationship with him.
Following the police intervention, Thornton was promptly arrested and issued with an abduction notice, a legal measure designed to prevent further contact with the victim.
Despite this, he flagrantly violated the restrictions by meeting with the girl on multiple occasions, further complicating the case and demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of the young girl involved.
Detective Constable Amanda Walker, who led the investigation, expressed her concerns about Thornton’s actions.
She stated, “Thornton took advantage of this young girl who was vulnerable due to her age.
He knew she was under the age of consent but chose to pursue a sexual relationship with her and lied about his age to her family.
He has admitted his offences and has been brought to justice, and hopefully this young girl and her family can now try to move forward with their lives.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians.
Detective Walker emphasized, “I would encourage any parent with concerns of this nature about a child to contact us so we can take the necessary action.” The community of Doncaster now grapples with the aftermath of this disturbing case, hoping that justice will bring some measure of closure for the victim and her family.
