Leslie Evans

Colwyn Bay Sexual Abuser

July 2006 Convicted paedophile been banned from befriending kids under 16 for life Magistrates in Llandudno heard how Leslie Gerald Evans, 46, was locked up for two years in 2002 after police found more than 1,000 indecent photographs of children. Magistrates ruled Evans could be named, but his home address should not be disclosed. Karen Seymour, for North Wales Police, said soon after his release in 2003 he befriended a 12-year-old boy, and a girl of 14 or 15. Because his behaviour breached his licence, Evans was sent back to jail. Ms Seymour said: “An expert report indicates that without an order there’s a 33% probability of a further conviction within the next five years.” Graham Parry, representing Evans, said he denied the original offences and there could yet be an appeal. There were no objections to the proposed order, subject to alterations to some of the wording. Court chairman Anne Roberts said the order was being granted to protect the public. The order bans Evans from: . Allowing anyone under 16 to enter his home or any premises under his control; . Entering any house in which there is a child, without the presence of a parent or guardian; . Associating with or speaking to, seeking to contact by any means with a child except “such contact as is inevitable in daily life”; . Undertaking any paid or unpaid work where any child under 16 is employed or under work supervision. . The bans do not apply to family members in the presence of a parent or guardian. . Evans must also notify police of any changes of address or plans to travel abroad. June 2002 Jail for man over child sex images A NORTH Wales man who was found guilty of possessing indecent images of children was jailed for two years at Chester Crown Court yesterday.  A jury found Leslie Evans, 42, of Hawarden Road, Colwyn Bay, guilty of 13 counts of possessing indecent images of children.  Evans still denies the charges, but Judge Roger Dutton, sentencing, said: “You were convicted by the jury on the plainest possible evidence of possession of a very substantial quantity of indecent images of children.  “Furthermore, of creating indecent photographs of children by downloading on to the floppy disk.”  He added: “It was my duty to view that material.  “I did so and it was a disturbing experience.  “These photographs show the most disgusting behaviour relating to children of all ages.  “One was of a child who was probably no more than two or three, who was crying while a sexual act was being performed upon him.”  Judge Dutton said: “If you and others like you were not tempted to acquire it, maybe those who produce it would not be inclined to keep doing it.  “It is not suggested that you were a photographer or had access to any children, but you have shown an unhealthy interest, a paedophile interest, in young children.  “You would have improved your position if you had admitted your responsibility for this, but you didn’t. A jury had to decide.”  Judge Dutton concluded: “Only an immediate custodial sentence would reflect the seriousness of these offences and provide a warning to others who may be tempted to use this kind of material, that when found they will be seriously punished.”  Evans was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and will be placed on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for the next 10 years.
