LEONARD ELSBY FROM IPSWICH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER VIEWING CHILD INDECENT MOVIES

In May 2014, a serious case involving a 66-year-old resident of Ipswich, Leonard Elsby, came to light when authorities uncovered disturbing evidence of his involvement with indecent images of children.

Elsby, who resides on Campbell Road in Ipswich, was arrested following a tip-off from Interpol, which provided crucial information leading Suffolk police to his computer.

On May 1 of that year, law enforcement officers visited Elsby’s residence to carry out a search.

During the operation, they discovered that Elsby had been engaging in the illegal activity of downloading and viewing child exploitation material through a file-sharing program.

In his police interview, Elsby confessed to having viewed such indecent images of children for approximately a year, revealing a disturbing pattern of behavior.

Further investigation into his digital devices uncovered 16 movies classified as Level A on a USB stick found during the search.

It is important to note that the grading system for such images has evolved over time.

Previously, these images would have been rated on the Copine Scale, where Level 4 indicated a high level of seriousness.

Under the current classification, these movies would fall under Category A, denoting the most severe level of indecency.

Additional images were also located on Elsby’s computer, adding to the evidence against him.

Prior to sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court, Elsby admitted to a charge of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child, further substantiating the gravity of his offenses.

Judge Peters, sitting as Assistant Judge Advocate General, sentenced Elsby to 15 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.

This means Elsby will not serve time unless he commits another offense within that period.

The court also imposed a 12-month supervision order, requiring Elsby to regularly report to authorities, and a six-month curfew from 6 pm to 8 am, restricting his movements during those hours.

Additionally, Elsby was subjected to the requirements of the Sex Offences Act for a duration of ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing monitoring deemed necessary by the court.
