LEIGH BAINES CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING SCHOOLGIRL IN IPSWICH
In a significant case heard at Ipswich Crown Court, Leigh Baines, a 29-year-old resident of Cavendish Street in Ipswich, was found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The trial revealed disturbing details about the abuse that took place when the victim was only nine years old.
During the proceedings, the jury convicted Baines of one count of rape and of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
However, he was acquitted of a second rape charge but was convicted of sexual assault related to the same case.
The court decided to adjourn sentencing to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, ensuring a thorough assessment before the final judgment.
Prosecutor Lindsay Cox outlined that the allegations came to light after the young girl confided in her parents about the abuse she had suffered.
The court was also informed that the victim had shared her experiences with a school friend, which contributed to the investigation.
Following his arrest, Baines maintained his innocence, denying the allegations and claiming he was never alone with the girl at any time.
Despite his denials, the jury found sufficient evidence to convict him on the charges of sexual assault and one count of rape, marking a significant conviction in the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual abuse in Ipswich.
