MAN JAILED FOR BABY SON'S SHAKE MURDER

A man convicted of killing his six-week-old son through shaking has received a prison sentence with a minimum term of 16 years.

McKenzie Ellis died from multiple injuries, including a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, and several broken bones, in July of last year.

Lee Vernon, a resident of Broadstairs in Kent, was found guilty of his murder after a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

The mother of the baby, Katrina Ellis, stated her hope that Vernon would never be released from prison.

He was sentenced to life in prison, with the court specifying a minimum period of 16 years before eligibility for parole.

The trial heard that McKenzie was brought to a hospital in Margate on 23 July 2018 in a critical state of unconsciousness.

Medical assessments revealed a severe brain bleed, a fractured collarbone, five ribs broken on one side and six on the other.

McKenzie was later transferred to King's College Hospital in London, where his life support was turned off on 26 July.

Vernon also received a six-year sentence on two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, to be served alongside his murder sentence.
