DARLINGTON MAN JAILED FOR DAMAGING EX-WIFE'S RING DOORBELL
A man named Lee Roberts, aged 51, who appeared at his former wife's residence and damaged her property, has been summoned to court.He caused approximately £90 worth of damage, including ripping the Ring doorbell camera off the wall and throwing it to the ground.
Roberts reacted angrily after being unable to contact his ex-wife and expressed regret for his actions, admitting he was 'stupid'.
The incident took place on November 4 of the previous year.
Liz McGowan, prosecuting, explained that Roberts and the victim had been married for 30 years before separating three years ago amid domestic violence and ongoing tensions.
She stated that the couple had been living separately since she fled their home.
The victim watched footage of Roberts pulling the camera off the wall, which left her feeling frightened and appalled.
Roberts pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and was sentenced by District Judge Helen Cousins at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court to a 12-month conditional discharge.
She warned him against repeating such behavior, emphasizing that if he resorts to 'stupid behaviour' again, he would face more serious consequences.
Roberts was ordered to pay £90 in compensation and £85 in court costs.
