LEE DEELAY FROM BARROW STRUCK OFF WITH CRIMINAL CHARGES IN PRESTON AND FURNESS

In September 2019, Lee Deelay, a 33-year-old resident of Thrums Street in Barrow, faced serious legal repercussions after admitting to a breach of his sex offender notification obligations. The incident came to light when Deelay appeared before Preston Crown Court on September 20th, where he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the requirements set forth for sex offenders. The breach was specifically linked to an undisclosed passport, details of which have not been publicly disclosed. The court scheduled his sentencing for October 25th, where further penalties and considerations will be determined based on the severity of the breach and his criminal history.

Deelay's criminal record is extensive and troubling. Back in December 2016, he was involved in a violent incident at Furness General Hospital in Barrow. He was charged and subsequently convicted of attacking hospital staff during a drunken rage. The court proceedings revealed that Deelay, who resided at Middle Hill in Barrow at the time, had assaulted Damien Butler and used threatening language towards Sarah Tammer on September 13 of that year. These actions led to his appearance at Furness Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to three separate offences: assault, threatening behaviour, and breaching a suspended sentence.

His past convictions include a 2009 conviction for two counts of sexual assault, which resulted in a 12-month jail sentence and a 10-year registration on the sex offenders’ register. As part of his sentence, Deelay was also mandated to attend police stations once annually for monitoring purposes. Despite these restrictions, he continued to violate notification requirements. In May of the same year, he was given a nine-week suspended sentence and was electronically tagged for seven weeks after admitting to failing to update his status with police between December 14, 2015, and January 14, 2016. He was supposed to make periodic notifications at a police station but failed to do so, leading to further legal action.

During the court hearing, magistrates emphasized the seriousness of Deelay’s offences, especially considering that the attacks occurred at night within hospital premises and while he was intoxicated. As a result, he was sentenced to a total of 13 weeks in prison. The court underscored that his actions warranted incarceration due to the potential danger posed to hospital staff and the breach of public trust. The ongoing legal proceedings highlight the continued scrutiny and consequences faced by Deelay for his repeated violations and violent conduct, reinforcing the importance of strict enforcement of sex offender regulations and public safety measures in Barrow and surrounding areas.
