LEE CARRICK FROM BRYNTEG, WREXHAM SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE CRIMES

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Brynteg, Wrexham, Lee Charles Carrick, aged 26, was handed a severe prison sentence of 16 years after being convicted of multiple counts of child sexual abuse. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing extent of Carrick’s crimes, which involved the repeated sexual assault of two young children over a span of four years.

During the sentencing at Chester Crown Court, relatives of the victims expressed their outrage and grief, shouting from the public gallery, “you’re a monster, burn in hell,” as Carrick was led away to the cells. The court heard that Carrick had threatened to kill the children—a boy and a girl—if they ever disclosed the abuse to anyone, especially when they were both under the age of 10. These threats were used as a means of control and intimidation, ensuring the children remained silent about the horrific acts committed against them.

Despite denying 14 charges—six of rape against the boy and eight against the girl—Carrick was found guilty on all counts. The judge, Roger Dutton, condemned Carrick’s actions, emphasizing the gravity of his misconduct. He stated that Carrick had shown a “complete disregard” for the well-being of the children and had engaged in “extremely grave” sexual offenses. The judge described Carrick’s behavior as using the children as objects for his own gratification, repeatedly abusing them over weeks, and maintaining a dark secret that inflicted profound psychological damage.

Judge Dutton highlighted the potential long-term effects of such abuse, warning that the psychological scars could manifest in various ways as the children grow older. During the trial, jurors viewed police interview DVDs from December of the previous year, in which both children recounted how Carrick had raped them weekly. The boy, in particular, explained that Carrick would threaten to kill him if he ever told anyone, saying, “He’d say, ‘If you tell anyone, I’ll kill you,’ every time he did it. He kept on saying every time, over again, ‘tell anyone and I’ll get you.’”

In court, the boy appeared via video link to deny claims made by Gareth Roberts, his defense lawyer, that he had fabricated the allegations. The judge responded sternly, stating that Carrick had exploited every opportunity to satisfy his sexual desires, with both children providing detailed and graphic descriptions of the abuse. Carrick’s denial and disregard for their feelings were noted, with the judge emphasizing that both children were afraid they would be harmed if they spoke out.

As part of his sentence, Carrick will serve 16 years on each of the charges, to be served concurrently. Upon release, he will be required to register his name and address with the police and will remain on the sex offenders register for life. Additionally, he is prohibited from working with children in any capacity. It is also noteworthy that Carrick was previously acquitted of charges related to the sexual assault of three females in 2005, which adds a complex layer to his criminal history.
