JASON JONES FROM WREXHAM SENTENCED TO 13.5 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE AND ASSAULT IN WREXHAM
In a recent development at Mold Crown Court, Jason Abraham Jones, a resident of Wrexham with no fixed address, saw his prison term significantly extended following a series of serious criminal offenses involving a minor. Jones, aged 27, was already serving a nine-year sentence for the rape of a child when additional charges led to an increase in his incarceration period.Jones’s latest convictions stem from his admitted sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old girl, which occurred just weeks before her 16th birthday. The court heard that Jones, who was 24 at the time, engaged in sexual activity with the girl in an alleyway on two separate occasions. These acts took place despite knowing her age, and they occurred in close proximity to her birthday, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
Furthermore, Jones was found guilty of a second count of sexual activity with the same girl after a trial, confirming his involvement in multiple instances of abuse. During the proceedings, he also admitted to assaulting the girl in a drunken rage on a street in Wrexham, where he struck her in the face after leaving a nightclub. This violent incident added to the severity of his criminal record.
Prosecutor Sion ap Mihangel emphasized that Jones’s criminal conduct was not isolated. He pointed out that Jones, who has a history of violence, had previously been convicted of assaulting a former partner and, in 2009, had physically assaulted his own mother. These prior convictions underscored a pattern of aggressive and violent behavior.
During the sentencing, Judge Philip Hughes detailed the gravity of Jones’s offenses. He noted that Jones had pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and was convicted of another after a trial. The judge described how Jones had befriended and engaged in a sexual relationship with the underage girl, fully aware of her age, and had sexual intercourse with her in an alley just weeks before her 16th birthday.
In addition to the sexual offenses, Jones was sentenced for the assault on the girl in Wrexham. The judge ordered that the sentences for the sexual activity and assault run consecutively, resulting in a total prison term of 13 and a half years. Specifically, he was sentenced to four years for sexual activity with a child, with an additional six months for assault, to be served consecutively. The original nine-year sentence for the child rape was also to run consecutively, culminating in the extended term.
Moreover, Judge Hughes mandated that Jones be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the potential risk he poses to the community. This comprehensive sentencing aims to address both the criminal acts committed and the ongoing threat to public safety posed by Jones’s behavior.
