LANCE BAYNES FROM WALSALL SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AT HAMPSHIRE SERVICES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Lance Baynes, a man originally from Walsall, was apprehended after a planned attempt to commit a heinous crime at a Hampshire service station. The incident unfolded in August 2020, when Baynes traveled from his hometown of Walsall to Hampshire with the intent of assaulting an eight-year-old girl. He was found in possession of various illicit items, including restraints, sex toys, and lubricant, which indicated premeditation and a disturbing level of planning.

Baynes had arranged to meet another man at Sutton Scotney Services, with the explicit purpose of carrying out a sexual assault on the young girl. However, his plans were thwarted when police conducted a sting operation on August 21 of that year. During the operation, officers detained Baynes and seized his electronic devices. A thorough examination revealed a disturbing collection of 1,430 indecent and extreme images, highlighting the extent of his online activity.

Further investigation uncovered that Baynes had been the administrator of an online account used to share images of children with other paedophiles, indicating his active involvement in a wider network of offenders. The police also discovered that he had been communicating sexually with a 13-year-old girl, adding to the gravity of his criminal behavior. These revelations were presented during a hearing at Winchester Crown Court, where Baynes faced multiple charges.

Baynes, who formerly resided on Cedar Close in Walsall, pleaded guilty to ten serious charges, including arranging and facilitating the rape of a child under 13, three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of extreme indecent images, distributing indecent images, and encouraging an offender to commit an indictable offence. His guilty plea reflects the severity of his actions and the extensive evidence against him.

In sentencing, the court imposed a prison term of eight years. Additionally, Baynes will be subject to a four-year license period following his release, during which he will be under supervision to prevent further offending.
