KRISTAPS BERZINS JAIL IN BIRMINGHAM FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TRAIN
A 34-year-old man, Kristaps Berzins, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a young woman aboard a train traveling between Birmingham and Manchester.
Berzins pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that although the woman was wearing headphones, Berzins attempted to initiate conversation with her, making personal and inappropriate remarks.
His comments grew more aggressive over time, culminating in him sexually assaulting her.
When Berzins went to the toilet, the woman seized the opportunity to move to another seat and reported the incident to a member of train staff.
The staff member then alerted British Transport Police.
Berzins was sentenced to seven months in jail.
Additionally, he was issued a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting him from sitting next to, across from, approaching, touching, or communicating with any lone female on public transport.
He is also required to sign the sex offenders register for seven years and pay a compensation amount of £300.
