BRADFORD MAN KOMAR MARDAN SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND JUSTICE PERVERSION
In a case that has shocked the Bradford community, Komar Mardan, a 36-year-old resident of Laisteridge Lane in Bradford, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 11 years after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl who was still in her school years. The conviction was handed down following a trial where the jury determined that Mardan engaged in four separate incidents of non-recent sexual activity with the underage victim, actions that have left a lasting impact on her life.
During the proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, it was revealed that Mardan did not act alone in his attempts to obstruct justice.
Alongside him was Hamaad Naser, aged 21, from Parkway in West Bowling, Bradford.
Naser pleaded guilty to charges related to attempting to pervert the course of justice and was subsequently sentenced to 12 months in prison.
The court heard that both men engaged in efforts to influence the victim’s testimony, offering her money in an attempt to prevent her from giving evidence against them.
The court was presented with a poignant victim impact statement, read aloud by prosecutor Matthew Bean.
The statement detailed how the victim’s life has been overshadowed by feelings of fear, shame, and guilt, illustrating the profound and lasting trauma inflicted by the offenders.
The prosecutor emphasized that an aggravating factor in the case was Mardan’s use of alcohol to manipulate the girl before abusing her, a tactic that further exploited her vulnerability.
Judge Ahmed Nadim, presiding over the case, described the grooming process employed by Mardan as particularly sinister.
The judge explained that Mardan had initiated contact with the girl via the internet, during which he bought her alcohol and chocolates as part of his grooming strategy.
The court found that this manipulation, combined with threats, led to the sexual abuse of the young girl.
The judge emphasized that the grooming process was designed to exploit her trust and innocence, ultimately resulting in the criminal acts.
Furthermore, the judge condemned the audacity of Mardan and Naser’s attempts to interfere with the justice process.
After the allegations were reported to the police, both men engaged in efforts to bribe or influence the victim to withdraw her testimony.
Judge Nadim described these actions as an “audacious attack” on the integrity of the justice system, underscoring the seriousness of their misconduct.
In addition to the prison sentence, Mardan was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order with no time limit, along with a lifelong restraining order to protect the victim from any further contact.
The judge clarified that Mardan would serve two-thirds of his 11-year sentence in custody before being eligible for release on licence, ensuring ongoing supervision and monitoring.
Judge Nadim highlighted the severity of Naser’s involvement, noting that his actions were highly serious and aimed at frustrating the legal proceedings against Mardan.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and the judiciary’s commitment to punishing those who seek to undermine justice through intimidation and corruption.
