KEVIN VARLEY SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR CHILD ABUSE AND IMAGE DISTRIBUTION
In February 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Kevin Varley, a man from East Ardsley, Leeds, who committed heinous acts of child abuse and distribution of indecent images. The case was brought to light when Varley was found to have recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with a child under the age of 13, an act that he then shared with another convicted sex offender.
This revelation led to his arrest and subsequent conviction, highlighting the severity of his crimes.
Kevin Varley, aged 52 and residing at Hopefield Court in East Ardsley, was sentenced to a total of 45 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges.
These included indecently assaulting a young child, creating an indecent image of a child, and distributing such images online.
The proceedings took place at Leeds Crown Court, where the court was informed of the full extent of Varley's criminal behavior.
According to court reports, Varley used his mobile phone to record footage of himself abusing the child.
The images and videos were then sent to another sex offender located in the south of England.
The investigation was triggered when Thames Valley Police arrested the recipient of the images for possessing indecent child images.
During their investigation, officers recovered the explicit material sent by Varley, which was linked back to his home address through the internet provider records.
Further evidence was obtained when Varley's phone was seized following his arrest on November 19.
Despite the gravity of his actions, Varley showed remorse during the court proceedings, admitting guilt at an early stage and expressing shame for his conduct.
His employer, Microform Imaging Ltd, provided a character reference, describing him as an “exemplary” employee with an “unblemished record,” which the court acknowledged.
Judge Penelope Belcher addressed Varley directly, stating, “You put your own desires and needs before this child,” emphasizing the betrayal and harm caused by his actions.
As part of his sentence, Varley was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of accountability for such grave offenses.
