KEVIN RADMORE FROM PLYMOUTH JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST VULNERABLE TEENAGER
In a case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Kevin Radmore, aged 61, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. The incident took place over a period of time in the late 1990s, during which Radmore, who was well-known within local circles, exploited the trust placed in him by the girl’s family.Radmore initially befriended the young girl through a church group, a setting that often fosters community and support but, in this case, became the environment for his predatory behavior. The girl, who was significantly younger—by approximately 30 years—was described as vulnerable, shy, and lacking a strong paternal figure in her life. Her relationship with her mother was also reported to be strained, factors that Radmore was said to have exploited.
Following their initial acquaintance, Radmore committed two acts of rape against the girl and carried out a total of seven indecent assaults over the course of the subsequent year. These actions have left a lasting impact on the victim and have been a source of distress for her family and the wider community.
During the trial, Kelly Scrivener, representing Radmore, highlighted her client’s ongoing health struggles, including long-term depression, severe bipolar disorder, and worsening angina. She explained that Radmore had experienced multiple suicide attempts following previous marriage breakdowns and had been unable to work for many years due to his health issues. Scrivener argued that these conditions, coupled with his inability to see his family regularly, would make life in prison particularly difficult for him.
The presiding judge, Recorder Paul Dunkels QC, addressed Radmore directly, emphasizing the vulnerability of the girl and how Radmore had deliberately taken advantage of her. The judge pointed out that Radmore was aware of her fragile state—being shy and lacking a paternal figure—and had used this knowledge to pursue his sexual interests. The judge condemned Radmore’s actions as predatory, noting his history of indecent assaults on other girls and young women.
As Radmore was led away in handcuffs to serve his nine-year sentence, he showed no visible emotion. The grey-haired man, who resided on Beaumont Road in the Greenbank area of Plymouth, leaned heavily on a stick as he was taken from the courtroom. His sentencing marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to address and combat sexual abuse within the community.
