Man convicted of horrific home invasion and murder in Wirral

MAN CONVICTED OF HORRIFIC HOME INVASION AND MURDER IN WIRRAL

A man named Kevin Morrison was convicted for the brutal murder and mutilation of 74-year-old pensioner Alice Rye at her home in Spital, Wirral.

Morrison, a police informant, used a horrifying method to try to confuse police by stabbing a knife into each of her eye sockets after sexually assaulting and stabbing her, resulting in her death.

Morrison had stalked Ms Rye, who was known for her charitable work and community involvement, before gaining entry to her house by deception.

The attack, which occurred on December 10, 1996, was described in court as wicked, horrific, and planned.

Initially, the case went cold but Morrison later attempted to incriminate an acquaintance, which was proven false when forensic evidence linked him to the crime through female DNA on a pair of knickers he rented in a lock-up.

Morrison was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 18 years before parole, and his bid for early release was denied in 2013 at the High Court.

The judge described him as 'a truly evil man' and noted that had he been sentenced today, the minimum term would have been 20 years.

Morrison, who was 60 at the time of sentencing, remains in prison.
