May 2020 Egremont man, 28, jailed for second sex assault on a schoolgirl A west Cumbrian man who subjected a schoolgirl to a sickening sexual assault while he was drunk has been jailed. Carlisle Crown heard that Egremont man Kevin McTaggart, 28, who admitted sexually touching the girl without her consent, committed a similar offence against another schoolgirl in in 2015. Judge Nicholas Barker jailed him for nine months, ruling that that his name will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years. During a video hearing, prosecutor Neil Bisarya described how the girl was left traumatised. On January 19, McTaggart repeatedly touched the teenager in a sexual way and made obscene suggestions to her – even though other people were nearby. In a victim personal statement, the girl later said: “Following the assault, I felt intimidated, scared of going out and I’m very wary when I see men. I don’t feel any more than I can trust men other than my close family. “He made me feel vulnerable.” Mr Bisarya said the defendant, of South Street, Egremont, had 76 offences on his criminal record. Judge Nicholas Barker told Mctaggart his behaviour had been disgraceful, saying: “You were drunk, you were crude, and you were abusive.” As well as jailing the defendant and putting him on the Sex Offenders’ Register, the judge imposed a five year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
