MICHAEL REID FROM EGREMONT FACES PRISON AFTER CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN CUMBRIA
In May 2016, a serious legal warning was issued to Michael Reid, a resident of Egremont, following his involvement in two disturbing child sex crimes committed in West Cumbria. The case was brought before Carlisle Crown Court, where Reid, aged 26, appeared to face justice for his actions.Reid entered guilty pleas to two charges: one for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and another for meeting a child following sexual grooming. Both offences took place during August of the previous year, highlighting a concerning pattern of predatory behavior during that period.
During the court proceedings, Reid’s defense lawyer, Kim Whittlestone, requested that the case be adjourned to allow for the preparation of a comprehensive pre-sentence report. She expressed her concern about Reid’s mental health, stating, “Having met the defendant today I am of the opinion that medical assistance may be required in this case.” The court agreed that a psychological assessment would be necessary, and a detailed background report was to be compiled before sentencing.
Judge Peter Davies acknowledged the importance of understanding Reid’s full circumstances and approved the request for a thorough background investigation. Reid, who resides on Croadalla Avenue in Egremont, is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17. Until then, he was released on bail, pending the final decision of the court.
Despite granting bail, Judge Davies issued a stern warning to Reid. The judge emphasized the gravity of the offences, stating, “You have pleaded guilty to two serious offences. I am going to give you bail. But you can’t read into that that there is going to be a non-custodial sentence. All options are open.”
Furthermore, Reid was instructed that before leaving the court premises, he must sign the sex offenders’ register and comply with all notification requirements. The case underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding child protection and the legal consequences faced by offenders in West Cumbria.
