SITTINGBOURNE MAN KEVIN LUSTED SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN MAIDSTONE

In a significant case that has shocked the community of Sittingbourne, Kevin Lusted has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 21 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences. The crimes, which spanned from 2016 to 2022, involved a single victim and included numerous counts of rape as well as other forms of sexual abuse.

Kevin Lusted, a 50-year-old resident of Spade Lane in Sittingbourne, was initially arrested in March of the previous year as part of a comprehensive investigation conducted by Kent Police. The investigation uncovered compelling evidence linking him to the heinous acts committed against the victim, who endured repeated assaults over several years. During the investigation, authorities also revealed that Lusted subjected his victim to repeated threats, including disturbing threats that they would be tied up and shot, adding a layer of intimidation and fear to the abuse.

Following his arrest, Lusted faced a series of serious charges. He was formally accused of 11 counts of rape, along with seven other offences related to sexual misconduct and abuse. Despite his initial denial of responsibility, Lusted maintained a not guilty plea throughout the legal process. The case was brought before Maidstone Crown Court, where a jury ultimately found him guilty on all counts on 15 March 2023 after a trial that lasted several days.

On Friday, 28 July, the court handed down a severe sentence, sentencing Lusted to 21 years in prison. In addition to his imprisonment, he will be subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and prevent any further harm to the community.
