KEVAN BOND SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BOLTON
In a high-profile case at Bolton Crown Court, Kevan Bond, aged 32 and a resident of Elsdon Gardens, Tonge Moor, was sentenced to nine years in prison following a series of serious criminal acts involving a victim within the Bolton area.The court's judgment came after a six-day trial during which Bond was found guilty of multiple charges related to his criminal behavior.
The judge, Graeme Smith, delivered a stern condemnation of Bond’s actions, stating, "It was a totally despicable way to act," emphasizing the reprehensible nature of his conduct.
The legal proceedings revealed disturbing details about Bond's offenses.
He was convicted of raping his victim and of disclosing a private sexual video with the intent to cause her distress.
Additionally, he was found guilty of sexual assault.
However, he admitted to a separate charge of common assault, and the jury acquitted him of three other counts, which included further charges of rape and criminal damage.
The court heard that Bond’s criminal activity involved the covert filming of his victim without her knowledge.
On May 25, 2014, Bond recorded her secretly while she was asleep, capturing a sexual act that she only discovered later when he handed her a USB pen drive containing the footage.
This act of non-consensual recording demonstrated a severe breach of privacy and trust.
The situation escalated further on April 27 of the following year when Bond visited her home.
During this encounter, he saw her through the letterbox engaging in a sexual act with a man.
Filled with anger and jealousy, Bond admitted to assaulting her at that time.
The court also learned that Bond had used Facebook to send her partner a video he had taken of her performing oral sex on herself, an act that constituted misuse of social media for malicious purposes.
Bond's threatening behavior did not cease there.
He warned his victim that he intended to share more sexual videos of her, a clear attempt to intimidate and emotionally manipulate her.
The court noted that the victim would have reasonably believed that Bond was planning to carry out his threat.
On the evening of the assault, under the threat of dissemination of further compromising videos, Bond raped the victim.
Judge Smith remarked, "It is quite clear to me that you had sent a sexual video without her consent, and that resulted in her having sex with you against her will." This sequence of events underscores the degree of coercion and abuse involved.
During the hearing, Colin Buckle, representing Bond, claimed that his client felt remorse for his actions.
He argued that the most significant punishment Bond, a father of two, would face was the loss of contact with his children during his incarceration.
However, Judge Smith was unpersuaded, stating plainly, "This is something you have entirely brought upon yourself." As part of his sentence, Bond will be placed on the sex offenders register for life and will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
These measures are intended to protect the community and prevent him from reoffending in the future.
This case highlights the severity of violations involving privacy, coercion, and sexual assault, and serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences faced by those who commit such egregious acts in Bolton and beyond.
