Sweeting appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Monday, 27 November, where he was handed a sentence of four and a half years behind bars.
His guilty plea covered two counts of sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13, as well as a charge of inciting or causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
These charges stem from incidents that took place between 2009 and 2011 in the Doncaster region.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of Sweeting’s abuse, which targeted a young girl whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.
The case came to light after the victim, demonstrating remarkable courage, came forward in 2015 to report the abuse, prompting a thorough investigation by authorities.
PC Adam Frost, a member of Doncaster’s Child Abuse team, commented on the case, stating, “Our investigation into Sweeting’s horrific crimes began in 2015, when his victim bravely came forward to report the abuse.
He has accepted responsibility for his unacceptable and despicable actions before the court and is now behind bars.” He further expressed hope that the conviction would serve as a source of strength for the victim, helping her to move forward and recover from the trauma inflicted upon her.
In addition to his prison sentence, Sweeting has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
