KENNETH DAVID POINTON'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN CARLISLE LEADS TO 20-MONTH PRISON SENTENCE
Kenneth David Pointon, a 30-year-old man from Carlisle, has been found guilty of a severe domestic assault that left his girlfriend in a state of terror and physical distress. The incident, which took place on the 18th of October at the victim’s residence in Carlisle, involved a violent attack during which Pointon, under the influence of both alcohol and cocaine, inflicted serious harm on his partner.According to court reports, Pointon’s intoxication played a significant role in escalating the violence. Witnesses and police statements revealed that he punched his partner in the face before turning to a more dangerous form of assault—squeezing her throat with enough force to cause her to fear she was suffocating. The victim, in her desperate attempt to protect herself, used a mattress as a barrier in an effort to block his reach. Despite her efforts, Pointon managed to get close enough to continue the assault.
The woman recounted her experience to the police, stating, “I could not breathe at all and started to think I was going to die.” Her words underscored the severity of the attack and the danger she faced that night. During the court proceedings, Judge Peter Davies described Pointon as a “misogynist” who “doesn’t like women,” highlighting his troubling history of domestic abuse. The judge also pointed out Pointon’s “atrocious” record, which further demonstrated a pattern of violent behavior directed specifically at women.
In his own admission, Pointon revealed that he had consumed ten pints of alcohol and a significant amount of cocaine prior to the assault, which likely contributed to his violent state. Facing charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, he pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to 20 months in prison. The court also imposed a seven-year ban on him contacting the victim or approaching her residence or workplace, emphasizing the seriousness with which domestic violence is treated in the legal system.
The court proceedings served as a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of holding offenders accountable. Judge Davies’s remarks painted a picture of a man who repeatedly targets women, a behavior he described as cowardly. The judge stated, “You don’t like women and you assault women – and it’s easy to assault women – but you never assault men, do you, which tells me you are a bit of a coward really.” This case underscores the ongoing issue of domestic abuse in Carlisle and the need for continued vigilance and support for victims.
