BIRMINGHAM MAN CAUGHT WITH PAEDOPHILE MANUAL AND NEARLY 150,000 INDECENT IMAGES AVOIDS JAIL
A paedophile identified as Kenickie Hewes has been found with a 'manual' that instructs on how 'not to get caught' while engaged in child sexual abuse.Hewes, aged 33 and residing in Bartley Green, also possessed nearly 150,000 indecent images on his laptop, which a judge described as a 'very large collection' compared to other cases.
Hewes downloaded a document called 'The Jazz Guide,' which provided guidance on grooming and sexually abusing children, but claimed he viewed the material out of 'intrigue' rather than for sexual gratification.
He admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images, including extreme images, a prohibited image, and a paedophile manual.
Hewes was sentenced to two years suspended for two years at Birmingham Crown Court on July 11.
Recorder Ruth Coffey emphasized the harm to victims, stating, 'These are real children whose childhood has been robbed from them for other people's sexual gratification.
They maybe images to you but they are real children hurt very badly and receiving trauma that might affect them for many, many years.
Vulnerable children deserve protection, they don't deserve to be abused in this way for other people's gratification.' Police executed a warrant at Hewes’ address after receiving intelligence, seizing a laptop and hard drive containing the offending material.
The items included 3,637 Category A images, 2,460 Category B images, and 141,776 Category C images, some involving children as young as six months.
Prosecutor Marcus Harry revealed that some images titled 'The Jazz Guide' served as a paedophile manual with instructions for sexual activity involving children and advice on grooming and evasion of detection.
Hewes claimed he was 'inadvertently' downloading the images after clicking on a private message while online.
His defense attorney noted his troubled life and recent efforts to live more productively, including volunteering and stopping cannabis use.
Hewes showed remorse and insight into his actions, and the court mandated he complete 50 days of rehabilitation, including a sexual offending behavior program and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Hewes was subjected to notification requirements and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for ten years.
