KEITH JAMIESON BANNED FROM TRAVELING ABROAD TO SOUTH AFRICA AFTER MULTIPLE BREACHES IN MIDDLESBROUGH

In May 2016, a serious case involving Keith Jamieson, a known sex offender from Middlesbrough, came to light when authorities intervened to prevent him from traveling abroad to attend a Christian convention in South Africa.

Jamieson, aged 65, who is a born-again Christian, had purchased a plane ticket to Johannesburg with the intention of participating in the event as part of his church group.

However, due to a sexual harm prevention order issued against him, he was legally barred from making such international trips.

Teesside Magistrates’ Court heard detailed accounts of Jamieson’s criminal history, which dates back to 1964.

His offenses include a series of serious sexual crimes, notably nine counts of indecent assault against nine different children, which led to a five-year imprisonment in Australia in 1996.

After serving his sentence, Jamieson was deported back to England in 2011.

Since his return, he has been under strict supervision, with police regularly monitoring his activities as part of the conditions of a sexual offences prevention order.

Jim Langley, representing Cleveland Police, informed the court that Jamieson had expressed his intention to travel to South Africa on March 20 for an 11-day visit, accompanied by a pastor from his church, the Praise Christian Centre International located on Brentnall Street.

The order explicitly prohibited Jamieson from being in the company of children, but it permitted him to travel abroad provided he gave the police a minimum of seven days’ notice prior to departure.

Despite these restrictions, Jamieson was found to have repeatedly violated the terms of his order.

Court proceedings revealed that he engaged with children from his church group on multiple occasions and even took two children to the Sunderland Airshow last year without informing social services, breaching the conditions of his supervision.

Prosecutor Langley emphasized the gravity of Jamieson’s actions, stating, “It would be an understatement to say that the defendant is a prolific predatory sex offender.

A sexual harm prevention order will prevent him from traveling abroad and putting children in another country at risk.” During the hearing, Jamieson acknowledged his past convictions but claimed he was “nowhere near as bad” as he used to be.

He explained that he took the two children to the airshow with their mother’s knowledge and admitted that failing to notify social services was an oversight, attributing it to a lapse in memory.

Jamieson also expressed remorse, stating, “I never used to care about anyone but myself, but now I see everyone as God’s children.” In response, prosecutor Langley warned against allowing Jamieson to travel to South Africa, comparing him to “Dracula in charge of a blood bank,” emphasizing the risk he posed.

The court ultimately imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which was granted immediately.

Chair of the bench, Frances Sugden, stated, “We are concerned that you have not always followed the requirements of the orders placed upon you.

Therefore, we have no hesitation in making the sexual harm prevention order for five years with immediate effect.”
