KATHLEEN CARPENTER SENTENCED IN DONCASTER FOR SEX OFFENCES COMMITTED IN GRINGLEY-ON-THE-HILL
In a case that has spanned decades and involved significant legal proceedings, Kathleen Carpenter, formerly known as Keith Thompson, has been sentenced to prison for serious sexual offences committed in the early 1990s.
The 59-year-old resident of Doncaster Road, Hatfield, Doncaster, was brought before Nottingham Crown Court where she received a custodial sentence of 32 months on Monday, January 29.
According to court records, the offences took place in the quiet village of Gringley-on-the-Hill, Nottinghamshire, where Carpenter, at the time a man, allegedly indecently assaulted a young boy estimated to be around 13 or 14 years old.
The incident reportedly occurred during the early 1990s, a period that the victim recalls with distress.
Due to the sensitive nature of the charges, the victim has been kept anonymous, but it is understood that the assault involved inappropriate touching.
The victim, who struggled for many years to come to terms with what happened, did not disclose the abuse immediately.
Instead, he left his home, turned to drugs, and endured a long period of silence.
It was only after many years that he demanded an apology and some financial compensation from Carpenter, which prompted police investigations.
Investigators pieced together the evidence, leading to Carpenter’s arrest and subsequent charges.
She was charged with two counts of indecent assault, to which she admitted guilt.
The court heard that her admissions played a significant role in the sentencing process.
Judge Stuart Rafferty QC handed down the sentence, ordering Carpenter to serve 32 months for one of the charges and an additional 12 months concurrently for the second.
Furthermore, the judge mandated that Carpenter register as a sex offender and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for a period of five years, emphasizing the seriousness of her offences and the importance of ongoing monitoring to protect the community.
