NOTTINGHAM BROTHERS GUILTY OF DOWNLOADING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
Karl Winfield, aged 31, and his brother Kraig Winfield, were both involved in downloading and viewing sexually explicit images of children while living at the same address in Nottingham.Nottingham Crown Court heard that police executed a warrant at their home in Basford after discovering evidence linking Karl to the illegal material.
When officers arrived, Karl attempted to flee from the scene while holding a mobile phone that contained evidence of his criminal activity.
Kraig, who was more compliant, admitted to his involvement during police interviews.
The police analysis revealed that Karl's device contained eight category A images, which are deemed the most serious, along with additional B and C category images.
Kraig's devices also held a significant number of these images.
Both brothers pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, with Kraig, who had no prior convictions, receiving an eight-month suspended sentence along with rehabilitation sessions.
Karl, who had a previous conviction for sexual assault and attempted sexual assault from when he was 16, received the same sentence but with additional treatment programs.
The judge emphasized the seriousness, stating: 'Some people who commit these offences for the first time are looking at images on their computers and because of the distance that provides, there is something unreal about this.
But these are real children and they are being abused and this kind of material can affect them for life.
The evil of what you were doing by viewing these images encourages this.
You were involved in the abuse of innocent children.'
