KARL BABICZUK FROM BROWN AND LOUTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRLS AT HAVLOCK ACADEMY

In August 2010, a tragic case of misconduct involving a married drama teacher named Karl Babiczuk-Brown captured public attention in the regions of Brown and Louth. The 29-year-old educator, who was employed at Havelock Academy in Grimsby, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate sexual relationships with three teenage girls, leading to his imprisonment for nearly seven years.

Babiczuk-Brown, residing in Newbridge Hill, Louth, admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl while he was working at the school. The court proceedings revealed that he denied having affairs with two other underage girls, aged 14 and 15, whom he met through a local theatre group. However, the jury at Grimsby Crown Court convicted him of multiple charges related to these encounters.

During sentencing, Judge Recorder Euan Duff sentenced Babiczuk-Brown to a total of six years and six months behind bars. Court sources confirmed the length of his imprisonment. It was disclosed during a previous hearing that the affair with the 15-year-old girl took place over a four-month period in the previous year and was uncovered after Babiczuk-Brown attended an arts festival. Following this revelation, the other two girls came forward, revealing their own involvement.

Prosecutors detailed that the 14-year-old girl became involved with Babiczuk-Brown after she joined his theatre group. The court heard that the two exchanged text messages and online communications, which eventually led to consensual sexual contact beginning in 2005. The relationship with the other 15-year-old began in 2007, with the teacher reportedly joking to her that she and her friend could be his 'personal slaves.'

All three girls were said to have consented to sexual activity, though the court emphasized the serious nature of the offenses. Throughout the period in question, Babiczuk-Brown was married, although his marriage was only ongoing for part of the time. He maintained to the jury that the girls were not truthful about their involvement.

Babiczuk-Brown faced nine charges related to the 15-year-old girl, which he admitted. In June, after a jury deliberation of approximately two hours, he was found guilty of an additional eight offenses involving the other two girls. These charges included meeting a child following sexual grooming, engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and causing a child to participate in sexual acts. By the time his case reached court, Babiczuk-Brown had already been dismissed from his teaching position, reflecting the severity of his misconduct.
