BLACKPOOL WOMAN KAREN ROBB SENTENCED FOR GROOMING 15-YEAR-OLD BOY NEAR BLACKPOOL FIRE STATION
In September 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Karen Robb, a 43-year-old woman from Hornby Road, Blackpool, who engaged in a troubling online relationship with a vulnerable 15-year-old boy.The court heard that Robb initiated contact with the young teenager through social media platforms, where she exploited his vulnerability due to his autism.
Over time, she sent him topless images of herself, further crossing boundaries and engaging in inappropriate exchanges.
The grooming behavior escalated when Robb and the boy arranged to meet in person.
The meeting took place near Blackpool Fire Station, a location that became a focal point of the investigation.
Robb had discussed the possibility of meeting the boy in a park to engage in what she referred to as “naughty things,” indicating her intent to pursue sexual activity.
The discovery of her actions was made possible when her long-term partner of 15 years became suspicious after finding messages on her phone.
This led to the revelation that Robb and the boy had not only exchanged explicit images but had also met face-to-face.
The evidence was compelling enough to bring her before the court.
During the hearing, Robb appeared in court wearing a baggy Hawaii T-shirt and a blue hoodie.
She sat emotionless as she was sentenced to 16 months in prison after admitting to charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and meeting a child following grooming.
Her case was prosecuted by Frances McEntee, who highlighted the manipulative nature of her actions.
McEntee explained that the boy, who was naive and vulnerable, felt compelled to continue the relationship, believing he had to engage with Robb.
The court was told that the young boy repeatedly expressed love for her, and Robb responded with kisses and explicit chat.
She also encouraged him to perform sexual acts and even suggested they meet in person.
Prosecutors emphasized that Robb took advantage of the boy’s vulnerability.
His mother, who regularly checked his phone, discovered the exchanges, which caused the boy significant distress.
The court heard that Robb sent images of herself topless and encouraged the boy to perform sexual acts, further demonstrating her predatory behavior.
Judge Heather Lloyd addressed Robb directly, criticizing her for encouraging the boy rather than removing herself from the situation.
She stated that Robb should have taken steps to end contact instead of fostering the relationship.
The judge also dismissed Robb’s denial of deriving sexual pleasure from her actions, asserting that her behavior indicated otherwise.
She explained that the prolonged nature of the exchanges and her escalation beyond mere conversation showed a clear pattern of exploitation.
Judge Lloyd noted that Robb lacked insight into the seriousness of her actions and the potential harm inflicted on her victim and his family.
She pointed out that although most offenders involved in such crimes are male, female offenders do exist, and they should be treated equally under the law.
As part of her sentence, Robb was handed a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order, both valid for ten years.
Additionally, she is required to register as a sex offender for the same period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to her behavior.
